The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
