Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
